There are two types of awards that can be granted to members:

Faculty Member, Administrator, Student or Community Member at large
This award has been established to recognize the legacy that Michael A. Powell, Esq. continues to provide to NBGSA and students across the nation. Currently, Associate Chancellor for Diversity and Climate at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee, Michael A. Powell, Esq. has served as advisor to NBGSA for over 10 years. Along with Dr. Sharon Herron, he was instrumental in the initial transition of the organization from North Carolina Central University to Howard University and has been assisting with the guidance, leadership, and outreach of NBGSA and its students on the local, regional, and national levels without sabbatical. We would like to recognize an outstanding student, faculty member, administrator, or community member at large, who exhibits the qualities of dedication, community service, and leadership, significant in the ways representative of Michael A. Willie D. Lawson, Jr. Memorial Scholarship | Application | Documentation
The Willie D. Lawson, Jr. Memorial Scholarship is a $500 scholarship awarded to three outstanding NBGSA members. This scholarship is based on NBGSA involvement, university and community contributions, and academic excellence. This award has been established to recognize the legacy of Willie D. Lawson, Jr. and all of his accomplishments. Lawson served as Vice President of Administration Affairs from 1997-1999. His research interests included crime and delinquency and he planned to work for the Federal Probation Service after completing his graduate career. Willie D. Lawson, Jr.’s untimely death was a great blow to NBGSA and the black community. He was awarded a Posthumous Master of Science Degree from Mississippi State University in 2001. More...
